The idea behind Collabogs is to visualize how artists have collaborated with each other via "release credits".
In order to display artists in the way we do, below criteria is followed:
- All entries registered in Discogs listed as an "artist" type
- A collab or "link" is made when an artist has been involved "hands on" with another artist on at least one release, with a cited credit such as:
- Member
- Featuring
- Mixer, Producer
- Instrument (guitar, vocals, drums ... etc)
- Since many artists might have been credited for writing a certain song which may have been "covered" or "remixed" by many other artists, this is not necessarily a collaboration. So we have excluded such credits as:
- Writen by, lyrics by, words by
- Composed by, music by ... etc
Since Collabogs main focus is to provide collaboration network maps between people (artists), it may also provide connections between "bands" or "group of artists". This type of networks mostly represents connections via:
- Songs remixes
- Compilations
- Splits
It is possible that for some famous/renowned artists, we cannot display all the releases he/she has been listed on. This is because such artists may have dozens or hundreds of releases registered, and due to the current Discogs limitations, we might not be able to get all of their releases info :(
But hey, if an artist is already famous, why not try and discover new music through "unknown" artists? :)
